5th GTBA – Casa Betti & Ayuda y Solidaridad con las Niñas – Hand-knitting
Category: Germinating Ties
Date: November 2018
The girls from the foster home Ayuda y Solidaridad visited for the fifth time Casa Betti to continue building their relationships with the elderly ladies and their environmental consciousness learning experience at their Germinating Ties encounters. In this visit, the girls showed how they know the elders by greeting them by their names and asking about those who weren’t there.
This time the goal was to learn more about reusing materials to prevent trash generation, so their activity consisted of making mats out of rags of old clothes by knitting them together with their hands. The idea was to have them all knit in teams and then join the parts together to make a larger creation. Patience and perseverance were key in this activity: the elders encouraged the girls to continue and teamed up to support them. We all confirmed that if we join efforts working together we achieve more.
By the end, the girls took their creations home and said a loving goodbye to the elders, remembering that they have one last reunion pending for this year. They all hugged and kissed goodbye.
